The car was hit by the First Capital Connect King’s Lynn to London King’s Cross service at the Victoria Street Level Crossing in Littleport at about 8am.

A man was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge with minor injuries and one other person is believed to be hurt.

The collision caused the crossing to close in both directions between the Branch Bank junction and Padnal junction.

A bus replacement service is now in place between Downham Market and Ely until further notice.

The car was cleared from the scene shortly after the accident.

Insp Kate Scott, of Cambridgeshire Police, said: “Police were called to the scene at about 8am to reports of a collision involving a train and a car.

“Nobody was seriously hurt and the car was cleared from the scene not long after the collision.”
