Hundreds of new jobs created by relocating companies could be created by a new landmark commercial development in Peterborough, Cambridge property agent Bidwells has revealed.
Bidwells Cambridge has just started marketing Gateway Peterborough – a 240-acre distribution and manufacturing park located at junction 17 of the A1(M).
The greenfield site has planning consent for five million sq ft of commercial use predominantly targeting the manufacturing and distribution sectors – but there is the possibility of offices and related activities.
Patrick Stanton of Bidwells revealed that the agent was already in talks with a number of local and national occupiers and hoped to conclude negotiations in the coming months.
Milton Estates and Roxhill – a specialist in industrial and distribution development across the UK – are developing Gateway.
Stanton said that Peterborough had been starved of good quality development during the past five years so it was hoped the project would attract new businesses to the city, creating a significant number of new jobs in the process.
The developer is capable of delivering buildings from 95,000 sq ft up to a maximum of 1.3m sq ft in a single building; Roxhill is able to work with occupiers from the initial design stage and deliver quality buildings generally within a six-month timescale following receipt of planning.
There are plans to speculatively put in the first phase of infrastructure which will open up the site to speed up delivery time of buildings to interested occupiers. The partnership is happy to consider both leasehold and freehold transactions.
Patrick Stanton, associate partner at Bidwells, said: “Peterborough is an established and thriving distribution and manufacturing base for many international businesses and it is hoped this new development by Roxhill will attract many more.
“It will also allow existing Peterborough companies to relocate and expand into more modern buildings as existing stock in Peterborough becomes dated.
“The site is ideally situated geographically just off the A1(M) allowing easy access to the north and south and just north of the A14 which provides access to the east coast ports and also and west to the Midlands.
“We are already in discussions with a number of local and national occupiers who we hope will conclude negotiations with during the coming months.”
