Penrith’s left-arm spinner Arwyn Jones had a winning debut with Cumberland as they overcame MCCA Trophy rivals Cambridgeshire at Workington Cricket Club.
Jones, 40, a former Minor Counties player with Devon, is in his second season with Penrith after moving to the area two years ago.
Penrith born and bred Alex Atkinson, an undergraduate at Leeds University and former Penrith player, also featured in the victory.
Cumberland were well on their way to the target of 199 set by Cambridgeshire thanks to a sturdy third wicket partnership of 76 from Gary Pratt and Josh Tolley.
This before the impressive Barrow batsman Livingstone came to the crease and raced to his half century from just 58 balls, eventually reaching an unbeaten 59 to seal a convincing victory with balls to spare.
Cumberland manager Steven Sharp is now optimistic looking forward.
He said: “It was a great win and we are looking forward to playing Cornwall in the next round.”
Cumberland: Pratt, Miles, Livingstone, Tolley, Atkinson, Huck, Evans, Bulcock, Gleeson, Jones, Caunce.
