Another 4cm of snow hit Cambridgeshire last night but the county escaped the worst of the white stuff.

Temperatures plummeted to about -6C overnight but areas north and west of the county had a snowfall of around 7cm, according to the Met Office.

Forecasters said temperatures will reach just above freezing today but will fall again tonight to the low levels recorded in the last few days.

The Met Office said the county should not have more snowfall over the weekend but the mercury will stay low.

A forecaster said: “It looks to be pretty chilly over the next few days with possible rain showers on Sunday. We are not expecting any more snow for the county which may come as a relief for some people. Today should be bright with some cloud.”

Schools across the county remain open and no major traffic problems have been reported, although drivers are urged to take extra care.
