Boating in Cambridgeshire

It has to be said that boating in Cambridgeshire isn’t the first thing that springs to mind when planning a visit to the area. That said, for a landlocked county Cambridgeshire has more than it’s fair share of water bourne activities.

One of the most popular (and enjoyable) past times in Cambridge is a leisurely punt from the city centre down one of the many routes taking you past the famous colleges, or out towards the picturesque village of Grantchester. You can choose to be punted by a guide, or for the more adventurous take the helm yourself and meander down the waterways at your own pace.

If you are looking to make boating a key part of your holiday you can’t go wrong by paying a visit to one of the boat yards in Ely. Ely is one of the most picturesque cities in the South of England and an ideal place to begin your cruise through the Cambridgeshire waterways. Whether you fancy a slow gentle cruise on a narrow boat, or something more luxurious you can pick up everything you need in Ely.

If all that sounds a bit too leisurely there are still further ways to sample more adrenaline fueled boating in Cambridgeshire. There are a number of man made lakes that cater for speeedboats, Jet Ski’s and their associated activities such as water skiing and tubing. Most of them work on a hire basis but there is also the option of bringing your own craft, providing it meets the criteria of the club.
